Salt System Maintenance
Is your pool equipped with a salt cell? You may know this as a “salt system,” or a “salt pool.”
It’s a common misconception that “salt pools” do not use chlorine - in fact, the opposite is true. Salt pools use a saltwater generator (SWG), better known as a “salt cell,” to produce chlorine gas, effectively sanitizing your water through a process known as “electrolysis.”
Though these systems effectively convert produce chlorine from the salt in the water, it is important to regularly inspect your salt cell for calcium buildup - which can occur in as little as 3 months or less, depending on your water’s chemistry, the size of your cell, and its output settings.
Performing regular maintenance on your salt system ensures that it is effectively producing chlorine while also enhancing the longevity of your cell.
